Patricia Margaret to COME USA in 2008: posted 9-25-2007 Some exciting news!!! Just wanted to share with you the news that our Chief, Margaret, will be the guest of honor at the Greenville Scottish Games and Highland Festival in Greenville, South Carolina, next June 7th. I don't have all the details at the present time, but will share these with you as soon as more information surfaces. Janet Danforth and I will be working to make this time in South Carolina a momentous one for our Chief and the Elliot's. The website for the games is http://www.greenvillegames.org/main.htm. You will notice that it still shows this year's games and has not been updated for next year. Janet mentioned that on the night before the games, which will be June 6, 2008, there is a parade, ceilidh and sponsors' reception. The games obviously take place the next day and are just a one-day affair. The Gathering 2009 updated JANUARY 2008 I have also heard from Margaret regarding our Gathering in 2009. She is planning for it to take place on Thursday, July 23rd with a ceilidh that evening. The officers' dinner will be Wednesday night, July 22nd. This will give everyone, who wishes, time to go to Edinburgh to attend the Return of the Clans on July 25th and 26th. Margaret needs to find out more details regarding the Return of the Clans before firming up her dates. Let me know if you have any questions, and I will keep you informed of further details as they develop. Atttention (notes and correction) It has been pointed out that some of dates mentioned in earlier e-mails were not correct. The "corrected" dates are: Wednedsay, July 22nd for the officers' dinner and the gathering on Thursday, July 23rd. Please take note of the changes here! Margaret still has to confirm her plans. The Return of the Clans in Edinburgh takes place on July 25th and 26th. Yours eye, Patricia More about THE GATHERING 2009: "The Gathering 2009 has the honour of hosting the 2009 World Highland Games Heavy Athletic Championships. Over the weekend the largest highland games ever to have been held in Edinburgh will play host to the greatest international clan gathering to have taken place on Scottish soil." "Set in the magnificent Royal Park of Holyrood, with its breathtaking volcanic backdrop of Arthur's Seat and Salisbury Crags, it will showcase heavy events such as caber tossing and hammer throwing, accompanied by time honored disciplines such as piping and highland dancing. There will be a host of contemporary musicians, high-quality Scottish arts and crafts and a 'taste experience' of the best of Scotland's produce." "In all, it is a once in a lifetime opportunity to immerse yourself in your Scottish heritage and its rich wealth of traditions." A new ECS Commissioner for West Virginia & news of Scotland 2009: posted 9-6-2007 Dear Team: Just wanted to pass on some details with regard to what is happening in July 2009. As you will notice from the following information at www.thegathering2009.com, there will be a gathering of the clans on July 24 and 25. Our Chief is very involved and will be in attendance. It would be wonderful to see lots of Elliot's there too. Because of this event, Margaret is proposing to hold our gathering earlier with the Officers dinner on July 21, and the gathering on the 22 so that we can get to Edinburgh on the 23. Mike Elliott will try to arrange a golf outing the morning of the 21. Details are TBD. I will make sure more information about these plans will appear in the next edition of The Signal Tower. We have a new commissioner for West Virginia - Donald C. Elliott. I would appreciate your giving him lots of help and encouragement. I will be attending the New Hampshire games in a few weeks. Then we have the AGM on October 13th in Ventura, California. You will have received your ballots by now, so please do fill them out and return to Anne Nowack. If you need any further information about the games and activities, let me know. Thank you. Yours eye, Patricia New ECS Commissioners & news: posted 6-16-2007 Be sure to stop in at the ECS tent and welcome our new commissioner Pamela La Rue (and husband Marc). Pam is our now ECS Commissioner for Southern California. (Her husband Marc will be acting as assistant). Chad Elliott is the assistant Commissioner for Texas helping his father Mike. Judith Elliott has stepped down as interim commissioner for Georgia and Sylvia Elliott has been appointed to the post. If you are in the area make sure to welcome her! We hope to recruit a new commissioners for other states listed as vacant. Please be sure to contact Patricia for more details. Also keep in mind that all commissioners can use a helping hand. Make sure to contact them if you plan to attend games within your state/region. Setting up tents can be a big job. In most cases your help is not only welcomed & appreciated, it is sorely needed! Attention ECS Commissioners: Please let us know all the Scottish activities in your state where you will represent the Elliot Clan Society in 2007, so that we can add this data to the website. Also, if you should change your e-mail address, make sure to let Evelyn, Patricia and the webmaster(Dee)know ASAP, in order to keep our records up-to-date. It is very important that the ECS members within your state and region (and potential members) have a direct method in which to contact you!!!
