Indiana Commissioner, Don Elliott.
Text below a "reprint", courtesy of an article appearing in the July 2010 SIGNAL TOWER, USA
INDIANA Greetings from the (GL) Region and state of Indiana! My name is Don Elliott, from
South Bend, and I have taken on the exciting responsibility as Indiana commissioner for our great clan. Luckily for me,
I have an awesome mentor in Bob (Robert Bruce) Elliott, who has helped me tremendously through his kindness and wealth of
knowledge.
The 24th Annual Indiana Highland Games and Scottish Festival was held Saturday, June 12, in Fort Wayne.
I had told Bob of my plans to represent the Elliot Clan at the games and if he would be willing to come down and help me out.
Basically, I’m one of those beginner commissioners with not a whole lot of accumulated Elliot Clan memorabilia – or a tent
for that matter! Bob brought his brother, Dave, and with the three of us, set up an excellent display that wowed the judges
and earned us BEST TENT for the 2010 games!
Now that’s what I call a great start!
I was able to see our past Indiana commissioner, Ron Elliott, at the Fort Wayne Games and will hopefully be purchasing one of his
tents; so, I’m already on my way!
I will be setting up the Elliot Clan tent at the 2010 Celtic Festival and
Highland Games on Sunday, Sept.5 in South Bend, Ind., and on Oct. 9 for the inaugural Indianapolis Scottish Highland Games and
festival at the Latvian Center, 1008 W. 64th St., in Indianapolis.

CLICK HERE for an IMPORTANT MESSAGE from Marine for those interested in purchasing ELLIOTT TARTAN FABRIC
To ALL ELLIOTT's that are interested (Elliot tartan cotton fabric)
I am collecting names and yardage amounts for the Elliot tartan cotton fabric. It is a 58 inches wide,
a nice weight for kilts, washable, and easy to sew. I made Jerry a kilt, a sports kilt for my grandson and a skirt for myself. Since
my grandson has grown, I am lengthening his kilt.
In a sports kilt the pleats are not stitched. The Velcro on the waist
takes care of the increase in size. For a regular kilt the pleats do need to be stitched down and repressed after a washing.
Easy and practical. The fabric makes wonderful table coverings, skirts, vests and kilts and washes well. We need 200 yards and have
about 75 spoken for. It should run around $20 to $25 a yard.
Please email me (magnerma@embarqmail.com) if you are
interested in yardage. I will add you to the list and when we reach 200 yards, re-contact everyone on the list to see if they are
still interested before placing the order.
This artilce above was written by Marnie and was reprinted. It was originally featured in the Signal Tower, USA, march 2011 edition

PACIFIC STATES
OREGON and WASHINGTON Commissioners
and
will represent the Elliot Clan at the following places during 2012:
July 28th and 29th 2012 Pacific Northwest Highland Games at Enumclaw are the largest and best-attended in the Pacific Northwest. There will be
venders galore, food stalls selling traditional Scottish fare, as well as local Northwest specialties, tents for all the
clans, entertainers, music and dancing competitions, and of course the "games." This year's entertainers will include
Alex Beaton, Needfire, and the Wicked Tinkers. There will be full athletic activities, including the hammer throw, caber toss
(aka "telephone pole throwing"), pitchfork and schief throwing. This is one of the best-attended games, popular for pipe bands
and for its individual pipe and drummer competitions. The games are held at the Enumclaw Expo Center (formerly the King County Fair Grounds).
A note from Bob and his tentative plans for 2012: Plans are to do both the Seattle Highland Games at Enumclaw July 28th and 29th and Spokane Highland Games the following weekend
Aug 4th. We are considering the Treasure Valley Games in Boise Sept 29th but that is a considerably longer drive than Enumclaw
and I'd also like to possibly attend the Games in Hamilton, MT where Darren will have the Clan Elliot Tent but that will be the
weekend before Enumclaw.
Bob Elliot and Melanie Hollett have NOW taken over as Commissioners for Washington. Please be sure to contact Bob OR Melanie
for 2012 for gathering information!

CLICK HERE for history and picture of the Hermitage Castle Model
The recently rebuilt Hermitage Castle now belongs to the Elliot Clan Society, USA. It has been sent to Southern California
to start its journey around the country. We hope all the commissioners will show it at one of their local events. Contact
President Judy to make arrangements to pick it up, display it and then send it on. We in Northern California wish it well and
may it be enjoyed by many.
The Historty of the Hermitage Castle Model he original model was made in 1992 in Georgia and in 1996 was brought to Northern California. After appearing at a
few events, it was sent to Southern California to start a trip around the country. During one its trips, it was damaged,
and the castle was rebuilt and changed quite a bit. It ended up on the East Coast and was kept in storage for almost ten years.
The Northern California Branch of the Clan Society wanted to get it into circulation again. Jim Elliot's brother Robert,
who lives in Georgia, brought the diorama to Sacramento. It was determined that it was impossible to rebuild the castle.
We contracted with a local model builder who uses computer design and laser techniques. Using photos, drawings, plans
and information, a new castle was designed, based from how it looked during the Bothwell and Mary era. It was decided to make
two castles.
They are made of laser-cut materials overlaid with computerized photo paper stonework. The scale is about 1/8 of an inch to
the foot and is about 27 inches square and 14 inches high. The completed castle is now the property of the ECS, USA, and is
currently in Southern California. It will circulate to other clan locations around the country. The second castle belongs to the
Northern California clan and will be displayed for the first time at the Sacramento Games in Woodland on the first weekend in May.
The traveling castle needs to be handled carefully and transported flat. It left NorCal in a cardboard container that is
for protection and not shipping. To move the display, a very good flat cart with a folding handle is included. The display is
not heavy, just bulky. At NorCal's events, the castle has travelled with no box, sitting in the back of a van or the front or
back seats, secured by seat belts.
Contact the clan president for information about the castle's location and how to have it transported to your clan.
